FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SHOPPING FAQs

Where’s my nearest Lightplan showroom?

Take a look at our store locator to find your nearest Lightplan showroom.

Are lights included with the fixtures?

Some of our fixtures have built-in LEDs, while others will need bulbs to be purchased separately. Please be sure to read the product description before you make a purchase.

Am I saving money by shopping with Lightplan?

Yes - Not only do we have access to considerable buying power through our direct links to manufacturers, but all our products are covered by the Lightplan Price Promise.

What should I look out for when choosing a fitting?

There are a number of questions you should ask yourself when considering your options.

  • Is the light intended for task, ambient or accent lighting?
  • Is it intended to blend into your existing décor or serve as a room’s focal point?
  • Is the fixture appropriately sized for the room?
  • Will the fixture complement any natural light the room already receives?
  • Does the light need to be dimmable?

Can you modify a fitting to suit my needs?

Yes - Our bespoke fixture service means we can modify any existing fittings to suit your requirements, whether that means adjusting colours or adding additional bulbs.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes - Delivery is free on all mainland UK orders over £50 (Excluding weekend delivery). Find out more about our deliveries here.

Do you offer click and collect?

We certainly do - Just select the branch you wish to collect from during checkout, under ‘shipping method’. We will then notify you when your goods are ready for pickup.

Please note that while this service does not speed up the delivery times listed for each product, it does help you avoid waiting at home or potentially missing your delivery. This is especially useful if you don't have a suitable place for your goods to be left when you're not available.

DESIGN FAQs

Why is lighting design important in interior design?

You might call us a little biased, but we believe lighting is the most important element of interior design.

Humans have an emotional connection to lighting on a biochemical level. Warmer lighting puts us at ease while cooler lighting makes us more alert, and this has a knock-on effect to interior spaces.

A keen understanding of lighting, the ways it can influence it and the ways it can be harnessed to create a desired mood or atmosphere can be the difference between a beautifully-decorated space that feels like home, or one that feels somehow ‘off’ or even hostile.

What are the benefits of lighting design?

There are quite a few!

Expertise - Lighting designers bring years of specialised knowledge and experience in this niche field to the table, ensuring that every aspect of your plan is planned to meet your exact aesthetic vision while being fully functional.

Creative Solutions - There’s more than one way to do a room justice. Our designers offer innovative and tailored lighting solutions to create your desired mood, and are flexible enough to find ways to reduce supply, installation and running costs.

Incorporating Technology - The field of lighting is always evolving. Our designers stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and developments, ensuring that your setup is modern, sustainable and easy to manage.

Comprehensive Fixture Knowledge - The fact that our designers are in-house means they always have a specific fitting in mind, whether it’s pendant task lighting for a kitchen, discreet accent lighting for artwork or ambient lighting for a living room. Every fixture is selected with intent, enhancing the overall design and functionality of your space.

How much do lighting designers charge?

This can vary on the size, scope and complexity of the design - Drawing up a lighting plan and supplying fittings for a 3m x 3m study is going to be a different project entirely than creating a bespoke design for a 4-bedroom home.

That’s why our design process includes a free quotation stage, and the flexibility to consider alternative fittings should the result not fit your budget.

When is the best time to consider lighting in interior design?

The earlier the better. This allows the lighting to align with the overall design vision, functional needs and architectural vision..

If the ship has already sailed, don’t worry - Our designers are experienced and flexible enough to work at any stage of the design process. We have the know-how to avoid expensive and disruptive retrofits.

How long has Lightplan been doing this?

We have been in the business of selling and designing lighting since 1997. Some of our designers have been in the industry for 25 years!

Can’t an electrician handle this for me?

Most experienced electricians will know the fundamentals of lumens, kelvin and wattage and have the common sense to place them accordingly - but there’s a catch.

Lighting design is a puddle wide but an ocean deep, spanning everything from mathematics to physics to human perception to art. Just as a painter could make colour recommendations but would struggle to design an interior, most electricians only understand half the picture of lighting design.

In short, some things are better left to the specialists.

Does lighting increase home value?

It absolutely can - Well-designed lighting can create the illusion of space, draw attention to centrepieces or cultivate a cosy atmosphere, all of which are important when showcasing a property to potential buyers.

After all, what’s the point of spending time and money cleaning, decluttering, repainting and updating a property if you can’t show it off in the best possible light?
