A lighting plan for a light-filled conservatory extension: spotlights, a pair of sputnik pendants under the roof lanterns and a linear light over the kitchen island.
Our client's new conservatory extension is flooded with daylight through two roof lanterns. The question was what happens after dark, when all that glass turns black and a bright room can quickly feel cold.
We drew up a lighting plan for the whole space, so every fitting had a job: recessed spotlights around the ceiling for everyday light, a pair of sputnik pendants to fill the lanterns, and a slim linear light to bring the kitchen island into focus.
Sputniks underthe lanterns
Brass-finish arms and clear glass globes, each with a warm filament lamp, hang from the centre of each roof lantern. By day they sit lightly against the sky; at night they fill the glass with a warm glow.
Fixing them to the lantern frames meant planning the position and the drop carefully, so each pendant sits centred in its lantern and well clear of the room below.
Spotlights, pendants and an island light, each with its own job.
